Fire From Burning SUV Spreads To Dallas Apartment Building
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A fire broke out at the McCallum Meadow Apartments in the 7700 block of McCallum Blvd. in North Dallas on Tuesday around 2:00 p.m.
When firefighters got to the scene an SUV burning underneath a section of covered parking in front of a three-story apartment building.
The flames spread into the attic of the building by way of a tree located immediately in front of it.
Firefighters made it to the third floor where they were able to locate and put out the fire.
There are 24 units in the apartment building. One unit sustained the majority of the fire damage, while a handful of others suffered varying degrees of damage from smoke and water.
Dallas Fire-Rescue said the entire building will most likely be uninhabitable due to the loss of power.
There were no reported injuries to any of the residents; however, one firefighter had to be evaluated for heat exhaustion, but is expected to be okay.
Fire investigators determined that the cause of the fire was accidental.
In addition to the collateral damage suffered by the building, there was a second vehicle that was partially burned as well.
Families living at the complex told CBS11 they heard a loud explosion. When firefighters arrived, they found two cars burning. That fire spread to a building, ultimately impacting at least three top floor apartments.
More than 60 firefighters were on the scene.
Chopper11 showed smoke coming through the roof near a group of air conditioning units.
