Final Four Fan Fashion
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Team spirit was on full display at AT&T Stadium as the Final Four was set to tip off Saturday afternoon. Proud Kentucky, Florida, UConn and Wisconsin fans showed off combinations of orange, red, white, and various shades of blue.
More than 80,000 fans woke up Saturday morning with the same question, "What should I wear to the Final Four?"
For Wisconsin alum Ryan Rosenthal and his son, Jared, the answer is simple. Bibs. The red-and-white striped overalls are a Badger fan staple.
"Wisconsin is big into farming and so that's why we wear them," says Jared.
Another Wisconsin fan and current student Jessica Guise says one of the first things she did when she arrived on campus was buy a pair of bibs. Students wear them to football, basketball, and all other sporting events -- and plenty of Badgers have brought them to North Texas.
The fashion statement is a little different for Jessica's grandparents, Paul and Judy Geise. They're Florida fans.
"Before the brackets were even picked, my granddaughter ...told me that they might play us for the national championship," said Paul. "I said no way, if you even make it to the Final Four, and the Gators are in the Final Four, I'll buy you a ticket from Madison to Fort Worth and a ticket to the Final Four. That's how we got here."
Paul packed plenty of orange and blue, including a Gator inspired wig to show his school spirit.
UConn fan Tim Cote is also sporting some interesting headgear to support his team. He bought his Huskie hat before he graduated last year and wears it religiously.
"I wear it all the time. My house, when I go to sleep at night, whenever I want, whenever there is a big game," he said.
Superstition often plays a role for dedicated fans when selecting their attire. One Wisconsin fan admitted he wears the same Badger underwear and socks for every game. For Kentucky fan Jamie Stogsdill, she can't leave home without her new accessory -- a huge head cut out of UK head coach John Calipari.
"We took it to Indy and the Sweet 16 and the Elite 8, so we couldn't change the mojo, we had to bring it him to North Texas."
Coach Cal flew first class as a carry on from Kentucky to Texas, even the pilot wanted a picture with him. Jamie says she took more than 200 pictures with Coach Cal in Indy. She may set a new record in Arlington.
