Final Arguments Set In Collin County Murder Trial
MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend could soon learn his fate. Closing arguments are expected to begin on Thursday at the Collin County Courthouse in the murder trial of Terrance Black, and the judge is willing to work into late evening hours in hopes of reaching a verdict before the long Labor Day weekend.
Black is on trial for the murder of Susan Loper. Her body was found in a tree-lined area along John Hickman Parkway in Frisco. Black is the victim's former boyfriend. Police originally reported Loper missing from her Pilates studio at Gleneagles Country Club. The body was discovered a day later, savagely beaten with an object, according to prosecutors.
Black's behavior following Loper's disappearance and murder made the 50-year-old a prime suspect in the case. He was later arrested at the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Police said that he jumped from the rim of the canyon before being apprehended, and fell down about 25 feet.
The defense has criticized detectives for not looking at two other men in Loper's life.
Closing arguments are expected to last about three hours, meaning that jurors should start deliberating on Thursday afternoon.
