Fighter Jets Separate Dems In U.S. House Race

DALLAS (AP) - The two Democrats running for a new U.S. House seat in North Texas are split on a fighter plane program criticized by some as wasteful, but lauded by others for creating thousands of jobs.

Domingo Garcia says the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program is "the military equivalent of the Bridge to Nowhere." His opponent, Marc Veasey, says he's a major supporter of the F-35.

In a race where both men generally agree on their support for President Barack Obama and his positions, the F-35 is one of their few policy differences.

The 33rd Congressional District was one of two new districts created this year to give Texas Latinos a chance to choose a congressman. The district is 61 percent Latino. But Veasey is seen by some observers as stronger.
