Fight Over Homeless Shelter Continues
The fight over where to build a homeless shelter in Collin County could rage on for years after a decision at last night's city council meeting in Plano.
The people who run the Semaratin Inn in McKinney withdrew their proposal to build a new shelter at 14th and Shiloh in Plano last night because of very vocal opposition from those who live in the neighborhood. Right now, there's only one homeless shelter, 130 beds in McKinney, and many believe Collin County is in desperate need of another.
Organizers of the Semaratin Inn tell CBS-11 they're now going to wait for the city of Plano and the community to figure out where they want them to build. Many believe that will mean it will be years before Collin County has another badly-needed homeless shelter.
