Fifth Suspicious Fire Erupts In Frisco Neighborhood
FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Investigators are asking for public's help after a fifth suspicious fire was ignited overnight in the Grayhawk subdivision.
Frisco Chief Mark Piland said the fire erupted around 3:30 a.m.
Someone had pushed a trash can next to the wiring on the home of Mark Nunn, then set the trash can on fire. Only when police called Nunn, did he realize he'd been the latest target of a possible arsonist.
Frisco police had stepped up patrols in the area following the previous fires and a patrol officer spotted smoke coming over the top of Nunn's home. The officer called the fire department who was able to put the fire out before the home went up in flames.
"Had they not, this probably would be a potential homicide instead of an arson." Nunn said.
On Sunday, Nunn's neighbor's home went up in flames.
Nunn's wife had commented on that fire. "When she was asked what she thought about it she said, 'Who's next?'" Nunn said. "Well looks like somebody is trying to make a statement, I guess."
Police say there have been 5 fires in the Grayhawk subdivision since May. Two of them were intentionally set. The other three are being called "suspicious" by fire investigators, who now have the help of the State Fire Marshall's office to investigate the cases.
"We're throwing a lot of resources at this and we're confident that we will catch this coward, whoever that may be, that is causing these fires," said Maher Maso, Frisco Mayor.
Whether the fires are the work one or several people remains a mystery.
"We're also looking at are there connections to some of these fires," Fire Chief Mark Piland said. "Some of them have different characteristics and some of them have similar. That's all we can say right now."
So far, no one has been injured in any of the five fires.
Police are asking residents to report any suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1 or the department's non-emergency number, 972-292-6010. Anonymous tips can be texted to 'FRISCOPD' or 847411 (tip411).
