Feels More Like Early June, Not Early April
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - There is a layer of warm air through the lower atmosphere that inhibits storm development, called the cap. On Friday afternoon, an isolated thunderstorm could break that cap. A dryline to our west will trigger these storms, as it moves into our western edge – Montague County down to Sumervell County.
These storms could easily produce severe weather in the form of 58 mph winds (or higher) along with 3/4 inch hail (or larger). CBS 11 News meteorologists Larry Mowry and Jeff Jamison will be watching all of this carefully through the late afternoon and early Friday evening.
The risk to Friday night races at the Texas Motor Speedway appears to be very, very small.
Saturday will start off warm again, with low temperatures in the 70s and high temperatures in the 90s from DFW and Arlington to the west Also, look for very strong south winds, morning clouds, afternoon sun and high humidity. The weather will feel more like early June than early April.
Winds on Saturday will be very strong, gusting into the 35-40 mph range. So, be careful if you plan to do any outdoor grilling, boating or even driving next to high-profile cars and trucks. This will last straight through to Saturday night for the big NASCAR race, so strong winds will most likely be a factor for the drivers.
A cold front comes toward North Texas on Sunday. The morning will start out again with low temperatures in the 70s, but the front arrives at early afternoon or midday, triggering strong storms. The risk for severe conditions is highest north of the Red River and off to the east, but there is a chance for dangerous storms in the DFW area depending on when the cold front arrives.
Otherwise, winds on Sunday will turn to the northwest and create a very breezy day for North Texas. There will be a high fire danger for the western third of the area, as humidity lowers.
Monday will start out with cooler air and low temperatures in the low-to-mid 50s. High temperatures should barely hit 80 degrees, with brisk north winds. Rain and storm chances will show up again to spread a little water over our parched lands. There will also be a 20 percent chance of showers late Wednesday, and a 30 percent chance on early Thursday.
