FC Dallas Signs Midfielder Villar

FRISCO (Sports Network) - FC Dallas has signed Brazilian midfielder Ricardo Villar.

Villar began his career in the youth ranks of Sao Paulo FC, the same club FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman worked with as a coach in 1976-77. Villar joined Austrian first division side Austria Salzburg in 2004 before a short stint in Asia with the Chunam Dragons. Villar returned to Germany in 2006, signing with then second division Kaiserslautern.

Villar enjoyed his most successful run with German second division club SpVgg from 2006 to 2009, scoring nine goals in 63 appearances. He moved to second division Greek side Rodos FC for the 2009 season, but returned to SpVgg for the 2010 season.

"We're very happy to have Ricardo be part of FC Dallas," said Hyndman. "He's a player that comes in with great experience, having played in Germany and also in Austria.

"He's got good technical ability, great vision and a very good soccer brain."

The addition of Villar gives FC Dallas six South Americans, joining 2010 MLS MVP Ferreira (Colombia), Jair Benitez (Colombia), Milton Rodriguez (Colombia), Bruno Guarda (Brazil) and Jackson (Brazil).

Villar will join the club after receiving his International Transfer Certificate. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.
