FC Dallas President Charged With Assaulting Wife, Takes Leave From Club

Update 11/14 - It was announced Wednesday afternoon Quinn has taken an indefinite leave of absence from FC Dallas.

In a statement on fcdallas.com, the club said Quinn was attending to personal matters.  The club said Hunt Sports Group Vice President Dan Hunt will lead FC Dallas on an interim basis, effective immediately.

"We are aware of the report regarding Doug Quinn," said John Wagner, president of Hunt Sports Group. "We are in the process of gathering additional information and will have no further comment at this time."

FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Doug Quinn, the President and CEO of soccer club FC Dallas, was charged with assault and strangulation after allegedly attacking his wife in New York City on Tuesday.

According to the New York Post, the attack occurred in the couple's luxury hotel room at The Alex Hotel on the upper-east side. Quinn was in town with his wife to celebrate his 50th birthday and was arrested at 4 p.m.

His wife was treated by paramedics at the scene for injuries to her arm, legs, face and eye.

The club released only a brief statement on Tuesday morning.

"Major League Soccer and FC Dallas are aware of the report regarding FC Dallas President Doug Quinn. We are currently gathering additional information and will have no further comment at this time."

Quinn is due to appear in court on Wednesday, according to the Post. In a statement, Quinn's attorney Alan Futerfas urged the public not to jump to conclusions on the incident.

"In these cases, which are usually 'he said, she said,' there is often another side to the story and there certainly is one here. To protect the privacy of both Mr. Quinn and his wife, we will not go into the events of that day or discuss important and private circumstances relevant to the allegations. We look forward to meeting with the NY District Attorney's Office so that they can be fully informed of all of the facts and circumstances."

The arrest comes on the heels of a poor season for the club. Though the team set a single-season attendance record in 2012, the club failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2009.

Quinn was hired by the club in August of 2010. Prior to joining the club, he worked for six years at Soccer United Marketing, the leading commercial soccer company in North America, where he served as president.

Quinn and his wife, Elizabeth, have two young daughters.
