FC Dallas' Ferreira Out 6-8 Weeks With Broken Foot

FRISCO (AP) - FC Dallas midfielder David Ferreira has a broken right foot and will miss six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery.

The team said the surgery was scheduled Tuesday. Ferreira injured the foot during a training match in Florida. Team physician Dr. James C. Walter II says the injury is unrelated to a broken right ankle that forced Ferreira to miss most of the 2011 season.

Walter said the latest injury didn't respond to rest and rehabilitation. FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman says surgery is "the best way to get David 100 percent back to the field.''

Ferreira was the MLS MVP in 2010, when he had eight goals and 13 assists to lead FC Dallas to its first MLS Cup appearance.
