FC Dallas Beats Strikers In U.S. Open Cup
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - FC Dallas got second-half goals from Blas Perez and Matt Hedges to beat the NASL's Fort Lauderdale Strikers 2-0 in the U.S. Open Cup's third round Tuesday night.
Perez scored in the 54th minute and Hedges in the 66th as the MLS team got its first Open Cup road victory since 2007.
Walker Zimmerman left with an injury in the 41st minute. Second-year center back Hedges came on and almost immediately was shown a yellow card.
FC Dallas needed just nine minutes to find the net in the second half. Bobby Warshaw played a through ball to Je-Vaughn Watson on the right side. Watson crossed a ball into the area for Perez that was too long, but Fabian Castillo got to it and sent a pass back to Perez, who beat goalkeeper Matt Glaeser.
Hedges flicked a header home off a free kick from midfield by Michel.
