Kidnapped Lancaster Teen Found Dead In Dallas
DALLAS (CBSDFW) - A 13-year-old Lancaster girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert was found dead in Dallas along with the body of a man who was a person of interest.
The bodies of Shavon Randle and the other victim were discovered late Saturday night at a house near Kiest Boulevard and Sunnyvale Street in East Oak Cliff.
Authorities were checking that home after receiving a tip, said Eric Jackson, special agent in charge of the Dallas office of the FBI.
"We didn't have the positive result we were looking for," Jackson said. "But being able to let Shavon's family know that we've located her was our goal."
The FBI said its investigation was continuing. "Anyone that we find that were involved in this heinous crime against Shavon we will bring you to justice, and we will hold you accountable," Jackson said.
Shavon was reported kidnapped last week and an Amber Alert issued soon thereafter. The State of Texas officially canceled the Amber Alert Sunday morning.
The other body found with Shavon has been identified as Michael Titus, who was a person of interest, according to the City of Lancaster.
His mother Angel identified his body and told media, "My child is not responsible for this. If he was responsible for this, he would not be dead."
The City of Lancaster announced the arrests of Devontae Owens, who was named a person of interest by authorities, and 30-year-old Laquon Wilkerson of Dallas in relation to the kidnapping on Saturday. Owens and Wilkerson are both being held on aggravated kidnapping charges.
Two other persons of interest Darius Fields and LaPorshya Polley were taken into custody and questioned by authorities on Friday. They were both arrested on unrelated charges and are being held at Irving jail.
Angel Titus has been cooperating with investigators and says she and her family want justice for both Michael and Shavon.
"Nothing is going to be settled with more hurt and more pain and more death," said Angel. "It's not going to be settled. Right now we're gonna have to come together and keep these b******* that are locked up in there locked up."
The crime scene was located at a house in Dallas councilman Dwaine Caraway's district. "This is something we will begin to address. Boarded houses across the city. Because this level of activity that has taken place is tragic," said Caraway. "And Dallas will not stand for it anymore."
Both Caraway and the family of Michael Titus acknowledge that drugs could be a factor in this case.
"I don't know if it was money or drugs. I wasn't sure, but I know it got something to do with drugs," said Michael's cousin Chequetta Dyer. "It's all on Facebook. They know."
Councilman Caraway believes there may have been drugs involved. "So certainly I know that there was. It had to be a reason," said Caraway. "And that reason should not be the reason for this little baby to have lost her life."
While investigators aren't commenting on a motive in the crime, members of Michael Titus' family insist Shavon was kidnapped over a drug dispute.
