Price's Meeting With Prosecutors Canceled
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - It has been more than three years since the FBI went public with its corruption investigation into Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price. Federal prosecutors invited Price and his attorney, Billy Ravkind, to a Wednesday meeting to discuss the case, but that meeting has been canceled.
Price was spotted at the Earl Cabell Federal Building on Wednesday morning, riding in a black sedan. He stopped briefly to drop something off with a woman who works at the courthouse. But the county commissioner did not offer any comment. He simply drove away from the building when he was done.
It was June 2011 when the FBI raided Price's home in Oak Cliff, along with his office and cars. Many items were seized that day, including a safe. According to court documents, federal investigators confiscated more than $200,000 in cash.
Price has been under investigation for allegations of money laundering, bribery and corruption. It is not known why the meeting on Wednesday was canceled, or what that means for Price.
Daphney Fain is Price's long-time assistant. She is also considered to be a prime suspect in this investigation. According to her attorney, she was asked to attend a similar meeting with prosecutors. But her attorney, Tom Mills, said that he does not believe that he or Fein will attend.
Price and Fain both continue to deny any wrong-doing. Price has said that he refuses to give in to these distractions and that he remains focused on doing his job. But legal experts have said that the two could be indicted later this month.
So far, the U.S. Attorney's Office has not commented on the case.
