DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Count Hall of Famer Brett Favre among those that says Dak Prescott should remain the Cowboys starting quarterback.
On his weekly show on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Favre raved about Prescott's early success in the league.
"It's a little bit of everything... pocket, bootleg, down the field, short screens... and just the poise in which he has carried himself and the accuracy in which he has shown... is incredible... and the composure," Favre said. "And I probably, like most people (wonder) can he continue this week in and week out? And I know it is very early into his young career, but I have to admit, you know, I am extremely impressed at the way he has played."
Earlier Tuesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed with The Fan's Shan & RJ show that Tony Romo had an MRI on Monday and that the results "were just as we expected," but Jones would not give an answer on when he may return to playing...and it doesn't seem as if he, or the team is worried with Prescott leading charge.
"I think what Dak's success had done is given us the luxury to absolutely maximize any thought we might have of his rehab time," said Jones despite claiming after Sunday's game that Romo was still "our No. 1 quarterback."
"We've got a great situation here... I just have to pinch myself to think about it," said Jones. "We've got Dak, who is playing at a level that is very capable of winning these games. We've got the optimism every time he walks out there. It's inspiring, it's inspiring this team."
While Favre undoubtedly understands the conundrum the Cowboys face in the weeks ahead, he suggests Romo should step aside and let Prescott continue to play until he struggles.
"In some ways I get why Jerry would say that and others I don't," said Favre regarding Jones' Sunday comments that Romo was still the starter. "The biggest is... he owns the team. He can do what he wants."
Favre continued: I try to put myself in, say, Tony's shoes. I'm sure Tony wants to play. I mean, he doesn't want to get injured, he wants to be productive, but you have to look at the dynamics right now. And they are (the Cowboys) really are hitting on all cylinders. So, this is hypothetically thinking, if you are Tony you say, 'You know what, as much as I want to play, I don't want to press the issue.' I want to play but I'm going to let it play out right now and it is probably better if Dak starts struggling... and then they bring me in rather than they put me in and then all of a sudden we're not hitting on all cylinders and everyone's like, 'Ah, they should have got rid of Tony....' I'm not saying that you tell (Jason) Garrett or Jerry Jones, 'Look, I don't want to play.' I think, you want to play, but look, 'I don't want to mess up the dynamics of the team. If we get to a point where we're struggling, then it is time for me to come in.' Now, I know that's a hard thing to do. 'You know, Dak's kind of hit the wall, let's bring in Tony.' Rather than just (say)... 'let's bring him in... we know Tony's a winner... blah blah blah. ' I just think you are better if you wait until you are really needed. And I mean no disrespect whatsoever to Tony."
