Father Of Dallas Police HQ Shooter Speaks First To CBS 11

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — The chaos of the Dallas Police Department headquarters shooting today stemmed from one man: A lone gunman who believed the DPD was responsible for taking his 11-year-old son from him.
A suspect, reportedly 35-year-old James Boulware, led Dallas police on a chase to Hutchins after opening fire on officers outside the downtown Dallas headquarters early Saturday.
Boulware's father broke his silence to CBS 11.
Jimmy Lee Boulware, 73, said his son was "beaten down" by police and Child Protective Services during a custody battle over his son, "He [the suspect] never did anything to have him pulled away from him." He said he spoke to James Boulware about his issues with police Friday, "I told him they were doing their job; they don't deserve to get shot at."
The elder Boulware describes the shooting suspect as a dropout from North Grand Prairie High School who regularly struggled to maintain a job. Boulware had run-ins with the law before; his record shows number of counts, including family violence and possession of drugs.
According to a 2013 police report, Boulware assaulted his mother. She later described her son as a "conspiracy theorist" who "frequently talks to himself and appears delusional." Family members also told police that Boulware threatened to shoot up schools and churches.
