Father Killed In Crash Near Texas Motor Speedway Laid To Rest
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The man killed in a major crash on Jan. 19 near Texas Motor Speedway has been laid to rest.
David Martinez, 46, was killed after a red Dodge 4-door vehicle driven by three teens, ages 16 to 18, ran a stop sign and slammed into the vehicle he was in.
A celebration of life was held at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at Calvary Cathedral Church International. The celebration was officiated by Dr. Bob Nichols, Rev. Robert White and Rev. Troy Bravenboer.
Martinez was laid rest at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flower, his family is asking for monetary donations to be made to the Calvary Cathedral Church International at 1701 Oakhurst Scenic Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76111, or at calvarycathedral.org. Donations are asked to marked to the Martinez family fund.
The following is from Martinez's obituary:
"David was born Aug. 24, 1967, in Fort Worth to Jerry and Sarah Martinez. He attended Crowley High School and graduated from Christ For The Nations Institute in 2004 with an associate's degree of practical theology.
He had a passion for photography and the great outdoors that he saw as God's splendor. David was a man loved by so many. Everyone who knew him was touched by his life and faith in God. He was joyful and bold with unyielding trust in the Lord. He was a soul winner with a heart filled with the fire of the Holy Ghost and spent his time witnessing to the lost and praying for the well-being of others. He was a worshiper with passionate love for Jesus Christ.
Many remember him for his infectious laughter and "whoo!" David loved his wife and family and was a pillar of strength who gave his all for the Kingdom of God. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him but we rejoice in his homegoing, knowing that he is rejoicing in heaven. He has the victory!
Survivors: Loving wife, Jenna Martinez; son, James Craig Payne and wife, Meghan; mother, Sarah King and husband, Grady; father, Jerry Martinez and wife, Gloria; stepdaughter, Angelina Pena; stepson, Anthony Quesenberry; grandson, Sterling Payne; stepsisters, Cynthia Casados, Renee Casados and Maria Sides; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends."
Martinez was accompanied by his wife and two children at the time of the accident. His 8 or 9-year-old daughter was transported to Cook Children's Medical Center by air-ambulance, and his 14-year-old son and wife were transported by ground-ambulance.
The three teens received non-life threatening injuries.
