Father Drowns After Saving Kids At Joe Pool Lake
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - A father drowned after saving his children from drowning Sunday afternoon at Joe Pool Lake, a Grand Prairie Police Department spokesman said.
Detective Lyle Ginsler said police and fire responders were called to the Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake at 1:34 p.m.
Witnesses said a father and mother were sitting on the beach when they saw the flotation device their three children were sitting on flip over. The father went in after them along with a witness.
The children were saved, but the man "slipped beneath the surface of the water and was not seen again," Ginsler said.
A dive team found his body about a half hour later. He was unresponsive, Ginsler said, but was taken to Mansfield Methodist Hospital in an unknown condition.
He died hours later, Ginsler said.
