GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - A suspect in custody faces charges of child endangerment after he is believed to have made threats of killing both himself and his son.

According to Warren Mitchell with the Dallas Police Department 30-year-old Rafael Hernandez-Guzman was in legal possession of his six-year-old son when he began ramming his Ford Explorer into the vehicle occupied by the child's mother and her sister.  Mitchell says the incident happened at around 11:00 p.m. Friday in Garland.

During the incident, Guzman is believed to have placed a call to the child's mother and made threats of killing himself and the child.

When the two vehicles entered the city of Dallas Guzman eventually drove away.

Dallas Police Youth Detectives were then notified of the situation, an Amber Alert was also issued.

At around 6:00 a.m. Saturday a Dallas patrol sergeant spotted a vehicle matching the description of the Guzman's Ford Explorer at the Discovery Inn at Interstate-30 in Garland. The officer then called for assistance.

Guzman surrendered himself and was taken into custody.

The child was recovered uninjured.

Guzman faces charges of child endangerment and the two counts of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle. His mugshot has not been released yet.
