Father And Son Join Catholic Priesthood Together
KELLER (CBSDFW.COM) - You could say Chuck Hough the IV is following in the footsteps of his father--Chuck Hough III.
Both are former Episcopal priests and today they officially became priests in the Catholic Church.
"This is historic for the church and its been a great beginning for us as far priestly ministry in the Catholic church," said Chuck Hough III.
Historic because there has been a movement in the Catholic Church to allow married Episcopal priests to join the fold.
Father Hough III and Father Hough IV are both married with children.
Traditionally priests in the Catholic Church are celibate and not married. But the Catholic Church is working to bring others in who may not necessarily be traditional but still stand for the fundamental teachings.
"To be faithful to the call we have answered that we are trying to live out beginning today," said Chuck Hough III.
But the ordination is also special because it may be the first time a father and son were ordained at the same time.
Both called it a blessing.
"I'm very honored to have been ordained a Catholic minister with my father- a man I have respected my entire life," said Chuck Hough IV
It is also an opportunity to help the faithful.
"This young man beside me is going to be a great benefit to the church as well at his young age he's got good experience he'll be a great priest," said Chuck Hough III.
