Fatality Reported In Hood County Head-On Collision

GRANBURY (CBSDFW.COM) - One person was killed and another critically injured after a head-on collision occurred on a rural road just north of Granbury on Wednesday night.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Chrysler PT Cruiser was heading northbound on Farm to Market Road 2580 (Tin Top Hwy), when the driver unsuccessfully attempted to pass a Chevy pickup truck in a no-passing zone around 9:35 p.m.

The Cruiser hit an on-coming Nissan Altima in the southbound lane.

The passenger of the Cruiser, identified as 31-year-old John Marshal McNeil, was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman, believed to be his wife, was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital by air ambulance. She is expected to survive her injuries.

The couples 13-year-old daughter was taken by ground ambulance to Granbury Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

Sisters Sharon Cantu, 21, and Jennifer Cantu, 23, were in the Nissan at the time of the accident. Sharon was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital and is in critical condition. The condition of her sister is unknown.

The driver of the Chevy, identified as Jose Sandavall, was treated at the scene and released after his pickup rolled over and landed on its top.

The accident occurred just one mile north of FM 4.
