FARMERS BRANCH (CBSDFW.COM) - Farmers Branch Police have released the name of the off-duty officer involved in Sunday night's deadly shooting of a 16-year-old in Addison.

Officer Ken Johnson has been assigned to the patrol division since joining the Farmers Branch Police Department in March of 2015. Prior to joining Farmers Branch, Johnson was a police officer with Dallas Area Rapid Transit and previously served in the United States Army, according to a news release from Farmers Branch Police.

The shooting happened at a gas station at Marsh Lane and Spring Valley Road just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday night.

Detectives say the off-duty officer saw someone burglarizing a vehicle at a nearby apartment complex. The suspects took off, but the officer went after them in his own vehicle.

The chase ended in gunfire, with the driver, Jose Raul Cruz being struck and killed and the passenger being injured.

Officer Johnson has been placed on administrative leave, with pay, while the Department conducts an internal administrative investigation of the officer's conduct.

The Addison Police Department is continuing its independent investigation of the incident.
