Family Upset With DPD Response To Son's Murder

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Family members and friends of Donald Morrow II gathered at a funeral home in Seagoville on Sunday to remember a young man who lost his life while trying to stop an armed robbery outside of a North Dallas bar. "He has had so many friends come through and… it's blessed our hearts," said his mother, Margie Morrow. "He was just a man that loved life and obviously he loved people."

Morrow's love for others caused his death. The 36-year-old was with friends at Sherlock's Pub & Grill just after midnight Thursday when he tried to help a friend who was being robbed in the parking lot. Morrow was shot and killed.

Police have yet to find Morrow's killer, and that has his parents upset and questioning the Dallas Police Department's efforts to find the man who is responsible.

Morrow's parents issued another plea Sunday for help finding their son's killer. "It's a sad situation, very sad," said the victim's father, Don Morrow Sr. "Will it be your son next, your daughter next? We're just pleading for help."

Morrow's parents were given false hope by police last week, they explained, when they were told that a suspect had been taken into custody. But that turned out not to be the case. "It was very disheartening that we had been told something that was not an absolute fact," said Margie Morrow.

The family is also upset that a detective reportedly told them that no work would be done on the case over a weekend. "The first few days statistically are very important, and I felt like they thought they had done the job. 'I'm going to get some rest and I'll be back on Monday morning.' And that was just way it came across. It's just a lack of professionalism in doing a job," Margie Morrow said.

CBS 11 News did not get a response to the Morrow's concerns from the Dallas Police Department.

The funeral for Donald Morrow II will be held on Monday. There is $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in his murder.
