FORT WORTH (CBS 11 NEWS) - Friends of Lindsay Gardner, 27, the woman who was found dead in a field with her 13-month-old daughter, Hailey, want answers surrounding their deaths.
Investigators said the two were found dead about 500-feet from a Toyota Camry that had crashed into a tree.
"We both went to sleep last night and sort of said, 'we're just going to hope we wake up in the morning and it's just this was all just a bad dream," said Rhiannon Mayne.
Mayne and Jennifer Spencer were both friends with Gardner. They all belonged to a online group called Crunchy Moms. Spencer said, "It's spinning in my head just wondering constantly what happened to her? Did she suffer in anyway? What caused the accident?"
Sources tell CBS 11 News police are moving away from calling the deaths a homicide and that they have not ruled out hypothermia as a cause of death.
"If she had anything left, her instinct was to take care of her baby as much as she knew how to in that moment," said Spencer.
Spencer and Mayne said the deaths of Lindsay and Hailey have woken everyone up in their group of moms. "You need to have a plan for emergencies. Lets all make sure we have warm clothes in the car and have an emergency pack."
But as time goes on without a reason behind their passing, Spencer and Mayne said closure will be impossible.
"We just want to know what happened to her more than anything," said Spencer. "What did she go through and why?"
A vigil is being planned for Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the U.S. Post Office near Bryant Irving Road and Dirks Road.
A fund has been set up to help pay for funeral costs.
