Family Remembers Good Samaritan Killed On I-35 In Lewisville

LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - He was killed while trying to help. Sunday night the family of a teenager who rendered aid, on the side of the road, is sharing their thoughts about the bizarre wreck that left the Luis Aleman-Mendoza dead.
According to investigators, it was a crash on Interstate-35E in Lewisville that attracted Aleman-Mendoza's attention. The 18-year-old was killed as he tried to help a motorist who had just been in a crash.
Aleman-Mendoza's father, Mario Aleman-Lucero, said, "My boy gave his life to save one person."
According to police, the teenager was rendering aid when another car slammed into him and the vehicles involved in the earlier crash.
Maria Mojica was there and saw it all happen. "We started helping that person… the guys that were inside the Yukon. That's when he hit Luis," she said.
Investigators with the Lewisville Police Department say Tristan Harris was the driver who hit the Good Samaritan. The 32-year-old was arrested and charged with intoxication assault.
Aleman-Mendoza's grieving family is left trying to make sense of the tragedy as they remember the young man willing to offer a helping hand. Speaking proudly Aleman-Lucero said his son was, "very kind and always smiling, and always trying to help people."
