Family: Atatiana Jefferson Was Studying To Go To Medical School So She Could Help Others
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The community is learning more about Atatiana Jefferson Tuesday.
The 28-year-old who was shot and killed early Saturday morning inside her home by now former Fort Worth Officer Aaron Dean outside, was studying to go to medical school.
Jefferson's friends and family describing her as someone who always wanted to help others.
Jefferson graduated in 2010 from Lake Highlands High School in Dallas and then went on to study at Xavier university in Louisiana.
She graduated in 2014 with a degree in biology and was working selling pharmaceutical equipment and saving money to go to medical school.
When her mother recently got sick, she moved in to help take care of her.
Family and friends tell CBS 11 she loved to make others happy and was always the life of the party.
Her uncle Lapaca Jefferson said the entire family was so proud of her.
"Ever since she was a little baby she used to read, read, read and about my brother being sick with asthma, she said she wanted to find a cure for it," said Lapaca Jefferson.
Lapaca said the family is setting up a foundation in her name to help with the development of black doctors while addressing homelessness and stress reduction in poverty-stricken communities.
Loved ones Marquis Jefferson and his wife Noella Winslow Jefferson are holding tight to memories of their Atatiana, lovingly known as Tay.
"I'm angry and hurt over what happened to her, but I want that legacy of who she is to be instilled forever in other young people," said Marquis.
