Family Mourns Death Of Devoted Son

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - It was just before midnight Friday.

28-year-old Robert Salas was doing what his family says he always did, waiting for his mother to get off from work at this Marshall's store to make sure she got home safely.

"He would do anything for his mom. He lived with mom. He took care of his mom. They took care of each other ," said Albert Hernandez, a cousin by marriage.

With no siblings and a father who died 12 years ago, Salas and his mother were inseparable, according to relatives.

But, when Rosie Salas walked out of work Friday, police say she found her only son, shot to death inside his car.

"I mean, that was all she had," said Linda Hernandez, a cousin.

Family members say Salas was a law-abiding citizen with a big smile and gentle personality, making his violent death all the more surprising.

"He wouldn't even kill a fly. He's one of those hard to find people," said Linda Hernandez.

Police at the scene were unsure of a motive, claiming nothing obvious appeared to be missing.

Because of the time and place, family members say they believe someone witnessed shooting and they're calling on the public for help.

"We just want to get closure. We know somebody saw something. If y'all could please just us know," said Linda Hernandez.
