Family Hopes For Answers 10 Years After Murder Of Restaurateurs' Wife
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - This week marks 10 years since a mother was gunned downed in her west Dallas neighborhood. Today her family is still searching for answers.
Doris Ojeda, the wife of a local restaurant owner, was out for a walk with her husband when she was killed in a drive-by shooting. Monday afternoon CBS 11 News reporter Jack Fink spoke exclusively with her family.
Raymon Ojeda told CBS 11 it's still difficult to talk about the murder of his wife Doris, and mother of his two children. "It was just like a day like today. It was hard to believe then, it's still hard to believe."
What's harder to believe for Ojeda, whose family owns the Ojeda Mexican Food restaurants and Doris' older brother Ernesto Lopez, is that her murder remains unsolved.
Lopez said, "The pain will never end for us. All I can ask for is justice for my sister and my sister's memory."
It was 10 years ago March 29 when Raymon says he and his wife were out on an evening stroll near Gooch Elementary School in Dallas. He remembers their were just across the street from their house, when suddenly a light gold-colored SUV drove by -- someone inside fired six shots, then sped off.
Doris was killed. Raymond wasn't hit.
Ojeda said the vehicle, "Pulled up alongside us. I was in disbelief when I saw it happening. I don't like to think much about it because it takes me back."
Dallas Police Major Jeff Cotner says there's was very little physical evidence to work with. "Unfortunately, we haven't had an active lead in this case for a number of years. All aspects of the family relationships and all aspects of the business relationships were thoroughly looked at."
Today, just as they have for 10 years, the Ojeda family is urging anyone with information to come forward. All they can do now is pray for justice, and honor the memory of Doris, a loving wife, nurturing mother, and devoted daughter and sister.
Describing his wife Ojeda said she was a, "Very strong woman, just like her mother, really good caretaker, really loved her kids, loved everyone." Lopez had a similar description of his sister. "She was an angel. She had no enemies."
Much has changed in 10 years. Doris' parents have since passed away. Raymon is being treated for cancer of the kidneys and the couple's children have grown into adults.
Ojeda says they still believe the case will be solved. "There's still hope, we want to have faith, it's tough, it's tough."
