Family, Friends Say Goodbye To 16-Year-Old Northwest High Student
DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Family and friends packed First Baptist Church to say goodbye to ShyAnn Hooper.
There was prayer for the broken-hearted and hope for a very young crowd.
Hooper died Monday after a driver lost control of her truck near an icy bridge in Justin and slammed into the teen's car.
Her father wrote her a letter after her death. It was too hard for him to read it, so he gave it to her uncle to pass on to the large crowd.
"ShyAnn, there were so many things I was looking forward to that Daddys get to do - like walking you down the aisle - and being a grandpa to your kids. I know that the love that we shared was never in question," read Rev. Grant Bowles. "...You were an awesome human being, and I can try for the rest of my life and never get close to the level you have reached in your 16 short years."
Hooper was a popular varsity basketball player. As her coach spoke during the service, the entire team stood behind him.
"Everything she was on the basketball court was what she was everyday in life," says Lady Texan Basketball Head Coach Rusty Johnson. "The lady Texans basketball program lost an incredible young lady but I know she will be at every game watching over us."
As friends and family look for answers they also pray for another teen hurt in that crash. Brianna Christensen was with Shyann. The two had just left Northwest High School after track tryouts. Christensen remains in the ICU at a Fort Worth hospital. Even though she was not at the service, the team brought her jersey to the church.
