Family Escapes Fire That Destroys Keller Home

KELLER (CBSDFW.COM) – A family of four narrowly escaped an early-morning blaze that destroyed their 7,100 sq. foot residence in the 1300 block of Britney Court.

Keller Fire Chief Dan Gaumont said the first emergency calls were received at 1 a.m. Saturday. First responders arrived to find the attic area completely aflame.

The chief said firefighters quickly attacked the blaze, but were unable to salvage the home.

Keller called in help from fire departments in Fort Worth, Grapevine, Southlake, Westlake, Colleyville, Trophy Club, Hurst, North Richland Hills and Roanoke to help stifle the fire. Crews were still putting out hot spots at noon on Saturday.

Gaumont said the home "collapsed in on itself."

The family of four made it out in time, but their pets died in the fire, Gaumont said. According to the Tarrant County Appraisal District, the home is worth just under $1 million and has six bedrooms, five bathrooms and a four-car garage.

Authorities do not know what started the fire. The investigation is ongoing, Gaumont said.
