Explosion Inside Grand Prairie Home Prompts Investigation
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is looking into what caused an explosion in a Grand Prairie home around 4:30 p.m. Friday on Harrier Street.
Grand Prairie first responders initially received a 911 call from a man who told them he was injured by an explosion in his home.
When police and firefighters arrived, they noticed a detonated device in the home, prompting calls to the ATF and FBI.
The man was taken to a local hospital, and his current condition is unknown. The man's wife and children were unharmed in another room of the home.
Now investigators are working to figure out what happened in the home by collecting residue and debris, which will be sent off to a laboratory.
The man tells them that the device that detonated was a gift to him from 10 years ago, and that it exploded when it dropped to the floor. He thought it was safe.
Officials tells CBS 11 News that the explosion appears to be an isolated incident, and is not related to any criminal activity.
