Reported Explosion, Fire At Ellis County Plant

ENNIS, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - Firefighters in Ennis are fighting a fire at U.S. Polyco off I-45 in the 3100 block of South Kaufman Street.

The company deals in asphalt, coatings and additives according to their website.

Multiple people reported feeling and hearing a loud boom around 7:30 p.m. Friday, they thought was an explosion.

The Ennis Mayor Angie Juenemann said on Facebook an asphalt rail container blew its top causing the loud boom.

She also said the fire was contained and there are no environmental issues or injuries.

"All I heard was over the scanner," said Curtis Wayne, who's brother and father were inside the plant for their shift at the time. "People called me and said my dad's place blew up, my dad's place blew up. Of course, he finally calls me back on the way and just to hear his voice was a big relief."

Firefighters were allowing the fire to burn out Friday night.

The company, Polyguard, tweeted the incident was not an explosion.

The Ennis Police Department echoed what the mayor said in a tweet, as well.
