Experimental Alzheimers Vaccine
An experimental Alzheimers vaccine has been created in north Texas. Researchers at UT Southwestern have come up with what may prove to be an effective vaccine against the disease. Right now there's nothing that seems to work. Dr. Roger Rosenberg says they're testing a vaccine in mice that seems to set up a defense against beta-amyloid, the protein that builds up in the brains of Alzheimer's patients.
Rosenberg hopes the vaccine can delay the disease 5 years in early-stage Alzheimer's patients, and totally prevent it on those who haven't already gotten it. Look for at least two more years of testing.
