Expect Easier Uber & Lyft Access At DFW & Love Field Airports

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - As it stands there are only designated taxi, shuttle and limousine area transportation options at both Dallas/Fort Worth International and Dallas Love Field Airport. But Uber and Lyft may soon too be forces to be reckoned with at those locations.
Love Field began allowing Uber and Lyft drivers to operate out of the airport last week. Unlike taxi's at Love, the so-called Transportation For Hire Operators don't wait in a line with other like drivers; they have a designated area to pick-up and drop-off passengers.
Jose Torres with Dallas Love Field says the idea is to keep traffic at the airport flowing. "This is because of the need and the importance to have transportation options for travelers, so that they don't clog up the parking garages."
The DFW Airport Board is scheduled to vote on a similar plan Thursday that would change regulations to allow Uber and Lyft drivers, who have permits through the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, to operate at the airport.
Unlike at Love Field, the plan at DFW would allow Uber and Lyft drivers to go straight to gates to pick up passengers. Torres explained the difference at Love Field. "There's an area designated for that type of transportation -- and next to them is all the taxis and then the shuttles and then the limos, and then at the very far end will be the DART buses that will take you to the train station."
Uber has recently held very big campaigns in North Texas involving their service in conjunction with helicopter flights. The deals provided air transportation and ground transportation from events like the College Football National Championship Game and more recently the Academy of Country Music Awards.
