Expanded Bishop Arts District Streetcar Service Begins

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - There is now a new way to get around in Dallas' Bishop Arts District. Service is expanding on Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) streetcar line.
Zang Boulevard is one of two new stops for the Dallas Streetcar. DART has added another mile to the service, taking people right to the heart of the Bishop Arts.
Passengers had a chance to take a preview ride to the Bishop Arts this past weekend. Chelsea Miller lives about six blocks from the Bishop Arts and she took her bicycle onboard during the test run. "It was real smooth and real simple," she said. "The operators are super friendly, so if you're never quite sure where your stop is or what not they're super great to be able to talk to."
With more stops and cars running more frequently, the idea is to make the shopping and dining district more accessible, without adding more vehicles on the road.
In addition to the stop on Zang, between Davis and 7th, the streetcar will also pick up and drop off at Zang and 6th.
Business owners in the Bishop Arts say they're excited about the prospect of making the shopping and dining district more accessible to people who use public transportation or drivers who would rather not deal with traffic and parking.
The Dallas Streetcar now covers more than 2.4 miles - the first ride on the new extension departs at 9:30 this morning.
The expansion of the streetcar line means another change for riders. DART Route 722 (D-Link) is now an expanded downtown-only service and will no longer service Oak Cliff. Anyone who had the D-Link as their previous route should check the DART schedules for the changes.
Dallas Streetcar service is free, with service available from 9:30 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. The streetcars have pickups and drop-offs every 20 minutes.
