Ex-Astros Owner Makes Large Baylor Stadium Gift
WACO (AP) - The family of former Houston Astros owner Drayton McLane Jr. has given Baylor University the largest capital gift in school history to help build a new football stadium.
Baylor's Board of Regents said Tuesday the gift gives the family naming rights and it has asked that the stadium be named Baylor Stadium.
Baylor spokeswoman Lori Fogleman said the family didn't want the amount to be disclosed. However, she confirmed that it surpasses the $20 million donated by three Baylor law graduates in 1998 to build a new law school.
The stadium is expected to be built on a site alongside the Brazos River. Plans call for a bridge to be built connecting the stadium to the campus.
McLane is a 1958 Baylor graduate and a former regents chairman.
