Event Lets You Dispose Of Old Pills & Medications
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) wants you to get rid of any old prescription drugs this weekend.
Saturday, October 29, is "Prescription Drug Take Back Day" and police departments across North Texas are accepting old pills and medications as part of the event.
Officials say the goal is to keep old, unneeded or unwanted pills from being re-sold or winding up in the trash or water supply.
The prescription campaign is getting special attention in Arlington where a 2007 study showed the city's water supply contained small amounts of prescription drugs. None of the amounts were considered large enough o be dangerous
As part of Take Back Day anyone can drop off medication at selected police stations and some drug stores.

Studies show abusers get a majority of prescription drugs from family and friends. According to the Partnership for a Drug Free America, each day some 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time.
DEA officials said unwanted prescription drug collections will be held every six months until it has finished developing a safe disposal process as set forth in the Secure and Responsible Drug Disposal Act of 2010 signed into law on October 12 by President Barack Obama.
