Escaped Tennessee Convicts Arrested In Denton
DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) – U.S. Marshals arrested a convicted murderer and another suspect Friday who had escaped from a Tennessee Jail and hid in a home near the University of North Texas campus.
Denton Police Department spokesman Lenn Carter said the department "received information" that escaped convicts Joshua Caldwell and Jessie Lobbins arrived in the Denton area on Thursday.
A day earlier, the two escaped from the Robertson County Jail in Springfield, Tenn., in the north part of the state. Carter said the two reached the jail's roof and jumped over a razor wire fence Wednesday morning.
In August, Lobbins was convicted of murder, carrying a firearm in relation to a crime of violence and tampering with a witness, victim or informant in federal court in Nashville.
Caldwell was in federal pre-trial detention for conspiracy to distribute marijuana and methamphetamine. Lobbins surrendered to police without incident while Caldwell was found hiding inside the home, Carter said.
The U.S. Marshals and the Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force – which includes Denton police officers – carried out the investigation and subsequent arrests, Carter said.
Both men are jailed in Denton awaiting extradition to Tennessee.
