NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Brent Allen Jozefkowicz cut off his ankle bracelet and walked away from a Fort Worth halfway house on August 4. He was found dead on a South Carolina Beach August 15.
According to officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Myrtle Beach Police Department alerted Texas officials that Jozefkowicz, 48, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.
After his escape from the halfway house in the 600 block of North Henderson Street, officials had said it was highly possible that Jozefkowicz could commit sexual crimes again. Jozefkowicz had served a total of 18 years in jail for the Aggravated Sexual Assault of a 21-year-old woman and and sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl.
Officials in North Texas arrested four people for allegedly assisting in Jozefkowicz' escape. Jon Ryan Evans, Teresa Kaye Shook, Russell Wayne Shook and Paula Pedigo were all arrested for hindering apprehension. If found guilty they could each face up to 10 years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
DPS spokesman Sgt. Lonny Haschel said officials do not yet know what Jozefkowicz was doing in South Carolina. "Our investigators don't have any idea and that information may never come to light."
