Emergency Halts Jet's Takeoff At DFW Airport
GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - Crews at DFW International Airport responded to an emergency with an American Airlines plane on Monday morning, which found the jet stopped in the middle of the runway during takeoff.
Flight 294 was preparing to leave for Detroit when a pilot thought that he saw fire in the plane's engine. The plane came to a stop and firefighters were called to the scene to inspect that engine. However, crews did not find any signs of a fire, according to Lynn Lunsford with the Federal Aviation Administration.
Paul Flannigan with American Airlines stated that a warning light did come on inside of the jet. But again, crews were unable to locate any visual signs of a fire, or anything that smelled unusual. Officials are continuing to look over the plane engine to see what may have been the issue. The FAA later said that there could have been a fuel leak.
The 141 passengers and five crew members were not evacuated during the incident. The captain of the American Airlines plane elected to have the jet taxied back to the terminal as a precaution. It has now been removed from service. Passengers were all booked on other flights to Detroit.
