DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Mavericks failed to lure free agent Deron Williams to Dallas last offseason. Their plans to bring a star aside Dirk Nowitzki has failed yet again.

Dwight Howard confirmed his intentions Saturday on Twitter.

The All-Star met with the Warriors, Lakers, Rockets, Mavericks and Hawks this week in Los Angeles. Howard retreated to Colorado to make his decision, which was first reported by USA Today.

A Mavericks' contingent of Mark Cuban, Dirk Nowitzki, coach Rick Carlisle, and general manager Donnie Nelson met with Howard on Tuesday. Cuban declined to comment on the meeting, telling reporters only, "it was fun."

In an email to 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher, Cuban wrote, "Just got word we are out of the Dwight Howard sweepstakes."  Cuban went on to say, "We gave it a shot and it didn't work out.  It was truly an experience."

Cuban says the team plans to eventually make the presentation shown to Howard available to the public.

Howard was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers prior to last season, averaging 17.1 points, 12.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in 76 games. But a season full of controversy ended in a first round sweep by the San Antonio Spurs.

He joins a youthful Rockets team featuring James Harden, Jeremy Lin, and Chandler Parsons.
