Durrett Benefit Concert Raises Over $200,000
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) -- A benefit concert held to support the family of former ESPN Rangers beat writer Richard Durrett raised more than $200,000 on Monday night in Fort Worth.
Durrett passed away at the age of 38 on June 16, leaving behind a wife and two kids.
An estimated 2,000 people attended the event at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth, where the musical guests included country music acts Randy Rogers, Wade Bowen, Casey Donahew, Daphne Willis and Rhett Miller.
All together, the event raised $202,968 earmarked for the Richard Durrett Family Fund.
"I don't even know how to thank everyone," said Emily Jones, who spearheaded the event. "We had lofty expectations, but I doubt anyone thought we could raise more than $200,000. It's a tribute to the kind of person Richard was that so many people chipped in and made this a night that no one will soon forget."
A number of sports memorabilia items were donated and auctioned off, including three fan experiences with the Texas Rangers.

Pitcher Derek Holland auctioned off two dates with himself, raising more than $7,000 for the fund.
Other sports personalities present included Rangers GM Jon Daniels, assistant GM Thad Levine, former Rangers great Michael Young, and Dallas Stars Hall of Famer Mike Modano.
