Duncanville, Plano West, Lincoln Girls Dominate

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Virtually all of the North Texas state-ranked teams emerged victorious as the UIL girls basketball state playoffs got off to a busy start around the area Monday night.

McKinney North pulled off the upset of the night with a 57-55 win over the 20th ranked Class 4A girls team in the state, Frisco Wakeland.

Tosia Foman scored 19 points as Duncanville, the state's 3rd ranked Class 5A team, improved its record to 34-1 with a 68-33 win over L.D. Bell. The Pantherettes move on to play Flower Mound Marcus, a 39-27 bi-district winner over Denton Guyer.

Sixth ranked Plano West's suffocating full court pressure was too much for Saginaw, as the Lady Wolves prevailed 73-12, and will face a much tougher challenge in the area round on Friday. That's when Plano West will play 17th ranked Cedar Hill, which disposed of Richland 61-44.

Taylor Vincent's 24 points led Keller to a 67-59 win over Plano East and a probable matchup with the state's top ranked team, Irving MacArthur, in the area round. The defending state champion Cardinals play Mansfield at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night at Arlington Lamar.

Freshman Kennedy Leonard tallied 17 points as 7th ranked Southlake Carroll fought back from an 18-9 deficit to beat Plano 56-52. Next up for the Lady Dragons is Mansfield Timberview, which squeezed past Colleyville Heritage 50-48.

Chelsea Jennings scorched Midland Lee for 24 points as North Crowley advanced 64-37. Arlington Martin made it a Metroplex sweep of the Permian Basin with a 60-54 victory over Midland.

A last second free throw propelled Mesquite to a thrilling 51-50 verdict over A&M Consolidated. Garland Naaman Forest survived a nailbiter, 47-46 over Richardson, while Mesquite Horn came up short, 41-29 against Temple.

In Class 4A, 2nd ranked Dallas Lincoln remained unbeaten as Comeasha Turner scored 30 points in an 87-30 win over Dallas Pinkston.

Fifteenth ranked Rockwall set up a second round showdown with Dallas Kimball as Alyssa Lang scored 21 points in a 70-41 victory over Frisco Centennial. A'Lexsis Ford had 24 points in Kimball's 56-44 verdict over Woodrow Wilson.

Dallas Carter and Highland Park will meet in an area round game. Jasmia Beasley's 16 points helped Carter down Conrad 52-48. Highland Park was led by Kaitlyn Read's 23 points in a tight 55-53 win over Frisco Heritage. Jerica Fears scored 17 points as Bryan Adams sprinted past South Oak Cliff 63-47.

In Class 4A games involving Fort Worth ISD teams, Crystal Jones' 21 points paced Western Hills to a 51-41 win over Spiringtown. Trimble Tech had little trouble with Trophy Club Byron Nelson, 51-32, and Southwest fell 58-37 to 10th ranked Aledo.
