Duncanville Family Prepares For A Quints Christmas
DUNCANVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - This Christmas will be Merry times five for one Duncanville family. They gave birth to quintuplets back in August at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
The babies are: Will, Seth, Gracie, Marcie and David. They were an answer to prayer and conceived with the help of fertility treatments.
"It's been crazy," Gavin Jones said with a laugh.
Gavin and Carrie Jones, missionaries to Papua New Guinea, already had one son but wanted two more.
Gavin thought they could "get it over with" by having twins.
Carrie told him, "'I can't handle twins. I can only handle one baby at a time.'So, this is funny."
Now, every time Carrie enters a room, she counts.
"And it always feels like one is missing. Because one is! So, it's really interesting I have to remind myself. No, he's not supposed to be here yet. But in my brain, I'm counting for five," she said.
Baby Seth is at Children's Medical Center in Dallas with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia.
Dr. Rashmin C. Savani is a pediatric specialist with UT Southwestern Medical Center, where the quintuplets were born.
"It's a form of lung disease caused by being on the ventilator. The problem is, when they're that small, they can't be without the ventilator," he said.
Seth won't be home for Christmas. He'll need a few more weeks.
"He's growing very well and I think that's the best thing for him, to repair the chronic lung disease that he has," said Dr. Savani.
Back home, Mom and Dad have their hands full with the other four. When they wash a bottle for one, it's usually followed by several more.
And then, there are the diapers. Right now, they go through 32 a day. When Seth comes home, it'll be 40.
They keep organized with charts and a dry erase board. They also have helpers, holders and handlers.
The Jones had prayed for more children for years. Now, there's another prayer.
"I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me," she said with a laugh.
