Drug Shortfall Now Hitting Ambulances

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - If you call for an ambulance there's a chance it may not be carrying the drugs you need.

The same drug shortage effecting cancer patients is now hitting first responders.

Matt Zavadsky with Medstar says the drug shortage has pretty well wiped them out of most pain killing medications. They've had to turn to pharmacists to compound the drugs from the raw materials.

He says manufacturers aren't making enough because they're just not profitable

Medstar was given notice Tuesday morning that a drug they use for problems with pregnancy is no longer available.

The shortage includes most pain killing medicationss and epinephrine.
