Drug-Addicted Dallas Attorney Admits Killing Woman
DALLAS (AP) – An attorney with a drug problem has pleaded guilty to killing his former law partner's ex-wife.
Scott Marshall was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Friday in the December 2009 death of 25-year-old Staci Michelle Montgomery.
Marshall previously claimed the shooting in his suburban Dallas home was accidental.
Bady Sassin, Montgomery's ex-husband, has said he believes Marshall killed her in revenge, to get back at him.
Marshall, who also pleaded guilty to four felony drug charges, received the maximum 20 years in prison on three of the counts and two years in a state jail on the fourth.
The sentences will be served concurrently.
Donna Cowey, Montgomery's mother, told Marshall in court that his actions "took our family and tore it apart."
