Driver Shot Along Service Road In Lewisville

LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - A man was shot and seriously hurt as he was chased by another driver along the service road of northbound Interstate-35E in Lewisville at around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Police in Lewisville did not immediately call this a road rage incident, but said that the victim, in a PT Cruiser, traveled off of the service road and crashed in a guardrail along the freeway near the Main Street bridge. The back window of the vehicle was shattered.

"When we got out there, we found one car that had bullet holes in it, and the driver had been shot," explained Capt. Dan Rochelle of the Lewisville Police Department. "He was talking to police initially on the scene and didn't know why somebody would be shooting at him."

The victim was taken to the nearby Medical Center of Lewisville and then air-lifted to another medical center in Dallas. The name of the victim has not been released, but he is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

There were several witnesses, Rochelle said, and police are now looking for a small black SUV. No other details have been released about a possible suspect.

The northbound lanes of the interstate and the adjoining service road were shut down for several hours while police conducted their investigation.
