HALTOM CITY (CBSDFW.COM) - A traffic stop in Haltom City early Tuesday led to a long police chase that finally ended in west Dallas. The incident started at around 12:30 a.m. when a police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle.

According to authorities, a van had passed through a red light in Haltom City. But the driver refused to stop for police. Fearing that the driver might have been intoxicated, law enforcement officials initiated a pursuit.

The chase wound through the streets of Haltom City, stretching into Hurst and Bedford, before coming down Airport Freeway into Fort Worth. Then, the driver started heading eastbound along Interstate-30, sometimes at speeds up to 90 mph. Officers used spikes on the van in Grand Prairie, and the vehicle ultimately stopped near Beckley Avenue in Dallas.

Now, authorities cannot figure out why the driver refused to stop. He was not intoxicated, police said, and he had no warrants out for his arrest. The van was not stolen either.

Officers explained that this situation could have ended much better if the driver had simply pulled over. Police have not stated what charges the man will now face.
