Driver Hit & Killed After Running From Traffic Stop
IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - A person was hit and killed by a vehicle on Highway 183 in Irving, late Thursday night.
An officer with the Irving Police Department stopped a driver for a traffic violation, on eastbound side of the highway, near Loop 12.
The male driver complied and stopped on the shoulder of the highway, then immediately jumped out of the vehicle and started running across the roadway.
After making it across the eastbound lanes and jumping the center median wall, the driver was running across the westbound lanes when an oncoming car hit and killed him.
While the name of driver has not been released, Irving police confirmed that investigators later learned the man had an outstanding warrant. There's been no word yet on what type of traffic violation the driver was being stopped for.
Officials with the Irving Police Department say the investigation into the incident continues.
