IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - A driver getting a ticket from an Irving motorcycle officer helped chase down a driver that hit that officer's motorcycle and took off. The driver detained the suspect in the parking lot of a hotel on 183 and Esters Road until additional officers arrived.
The suspect is in custody and expected to be charged with hit and run.
This all started around 12:30 Tuesday afternoon on westbound 183 at Belt Line Road, when an officer pulled someone over for a traffic violation.
While he was off the motorcycle getting information from the person he had stopped, a second car veered over onto the shoulder and hit the officer's motorcycle and left the scene, according to Irving Police Public Information Officer James McLellan.
The motorcycle officer was grazed by a the spinning motorcycle, but not seriously hurt. The motorcycle was destroyed.
Police say they believe the driver who struck to police motorcycle was texting while driving.
Jordan Daniel Dunn has been charged with Deadly Conduct.
State law requires drivers to move over or slow down when passing emergency vehicles stopped on the road. But police departments say they're constantly reminding drivers to give them room.
