Driver Dies In Fort Worth 18-Wheeler Crash

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Emergency crews in Fort Worth are still on the scene of an 18-wheeler crash along Interstate-35W, just south of Heritage Trace Parkway, in the northern part of the city. The crash happened before 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning in the southbound lanes.

The 18-wheeler turned onto its side, leaving debris in the roadway and blocking the highway in the process. The driver of that 18-wheeler died in the crash. It took some time for members of Fort Worth Fire Technical Rescue to retrieve the body of the victim. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner has been asked to positively identify the victim.

Authorities say the vehicle was forced off the highway by another 18-wheeler and overturned on the grassy shoulder. They also believe the other truck continued on southbound and did not stop for the accident. The fatal crash is still being investigated by the Fort Worth Police Department.

There were no other injuries reported.

In the meantime, traffic in north Fort Worth is backed up, with the southbound lanes of Interstate-35W completely shut down and the northbound lanes moving slowly. Southbound traffic is being diverted off onto Heritage Trace Parkway.

Officials say the overturned 18-wheeler will have to be set upright and all the cargo onboard removed before the freeway can be reopened. Drivers in the area should expect delays for several hours. Check the CBSDFW.COM Traffic section for alternate routes.
